why rivers & christian:
Our aviation planning knowledge has been built over the past forty years by designing and managing a diverse range of projects at most major West Coast airports from Anchorage to San Diego. These encompass hundreds of programs including airline tenant work, security checkpoints, FIS facilities, airline clubs, airside improvements, holdroom expansions, ticket counter, and baggage claim modifications, baggage systems, concessions, branding implementation, and complete terminal expansions and renovations. Our planning and design solutions are site-specific, rooted in many years of experience and constant research into the latest technologies. An understanding of client-focused design standards combined with detailed knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, TSA Guidelines, CBP design Guidelines, ACRP, and IATA standards, means we know what it takes to deliver projects that meet the needs of its many stakeholders, operate properly and deliver above expectations.
Our Aviation Planning Director, Jessica Baker, has over thirteen years of experience managing long-range airport planning projects, as well as major terminal renovation and expansion programs. As former Chief of Airport Planning at LAX, Jessica has experience leading and managing On-Call consultant agreements, planning, design, and implementation of aviation projects from the airport’s perspective. During her tenure Rivers & Christian’s aviation planning team worked with Jessica on LAX planning projects that are currently reshaping the masterplan layout at LAX now and into the near future. Since joining Rivers & Christian, Jessica has lead our planning team though multiple major airport programs, from the development of concepts, planning and programming parameters, long-range planning, project definition, environmental clearance process (including CEQA and NEPA), executive interface, and project approvals.
Rivers & Christian has collaborated with several other planning firms to bring our aviation experience and successful working relationships with our consultant core team and aviation specialty consultants to the table to solve complex issues in the congested, 24-7 operating environment of an airport. We have demonstrated that we can work effectively on varying sized teams bringing value and creativity to every planning solution.
Rivers & Christian working with Ricondo & Associates and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Planning developed the strategies that have been adopted by the airport to allow the four largest airlines at LAX to expand their operations. In addition, two new domestic concourses are to be added to the airport to accomplish the overall growth.
ALASKA AIRLINES TERMINAL 6 REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.
Rivers & Christian, A C Martin and our aviation consultant team worked with Los Angeles World Airports and Alaska Airlines to prepare a Planning Definition Booklet which is currently being reviewed by Airline and Los Angeles World Airports. The project will add two additional narrow-body aircraft gates to the terminal, modify the aircraft apron and fueling, add holdrooms, bus gate, SSCP and airline club space. During the next phase, Rivers & Christian will be the Architects of Record for the design and all phases of the construction. Assisting us in this effort will be AC Martin our planning team partner.
TOM BRADLEY INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL OPTIMIZATION PROGRAM.
Working with Los Angeles World Airports, Rivers & Christian along with their consultant team of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Baggage professionals, prepared planning documents to right size the Tom Bradley International Terminal to accommodate the addition of the Midfield Satellite Concourse North that is currently under construction. The document identifies and provides solutions for which terminal functions are undersized to accommodate the additional passengers that will use the terminal when the Midfield Satellite Concourse North is completed.
AMERICAN AIRLINES TERMINAL 4 CONCOURSE LAX.
Working with American Airlines, Rivers & Christian with their consultant team of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Aircraft Gating, and Baggage professionals, planned and phased the redevelopment of the existing Terminal 4 concourse that Rivers & Christian had completely renovated in 2000. A program definition document was prepared and presented to American Airlines and the airport authority. The intent of the resulting planning document was to become the roadmap for Terminal 4 Concourse redevelopment. The goal of the planning effort, affecting over 250,000sf of space, was to increase the Level of Service for American Airline passengers by right sizing holdrooms, concessions, restrooms, Admirals Club and circulation. Upgrade existing structural systems to be seismically code compliant, upgrade all mechanical, electrical and DATA systems. Add additional outbound baggage capacity through adding piers and right sizing employee work areas. Reorganize all aircraft parking positions to allow for the most efficient operations.
