SOL SURF

terminal one, lax, ca

concept:

The sculptural ceiling of curved metal ribbons mimics ocean waves and creates a Surf theme for the popular retail.

highlights:

Westfield’s design theme given to Rivers & Christian for Sol Surf for Terminal 1 was “The Unexpected.” The popular retail is one of the many Westfield Concession retail upgrades that were designed to provide hip, modern California feel that tap into the LA feeling and the energy of the T1 Southwest Brand at LAX.

Sol Surf was a part of the Westfield Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Concession redevelopment program. The 749 square feet surf apparel retail was developed by I Love LA a local Minority Business Enterprise. A metal ribbon ceiling expressing the movement of ocean waves sets the tone of the design which is further enhanced by utilizing sliced wood block flooring, reclaimed wood paneling as accent walls and display casework.

High output Led lighting was utilized to pop the brightly colored merchandise and meet the State of California Title 24 lighting standards.
