CNN Store for The Hudson Group, Bradley West, LAX, CA.

This CNN store features a back lit perforated aluminum facade with an abstract repeating pattern consisting of the CNN logo and graphics supplied by CNN. The overall experience is unique yet familiar, keeping a recognizable brand image.


The Hollywood Reporter Store for The Hudson Group, Bradley West, LAX, CA.

One of a number of stores designed for The Hudson Group at LAX, this store features a prefabricated fin system that incorporates The Hollywood Reporter brand in a contemporary and abstract manner.


Virgin America, Terminal 3, LAX, CA.

Designed to reflect the iconic Virgin brand, ticket counters and self-check in desks are arranged in a novel nontraditional configuration providing a friendly queuing experience. The satellite features a unique central check in area and large spacious holdroom.


American Airlines, Cargo & GSE Facility, LAX, CA.

The relocation of this GSE to a former 1967 United Airlines facility required the removal of hazardous materials, repairs to mechanical, fire life safety and communications as well as upgrades to restrooms, entrance ways, stairs and parking. The completed design provides a 65,000 sq ft 15ft high cargo warehouse with twenty landside cargo docks and a ten bay GSE maintenance facility.



Department of Homeland Security, Baggage Screening Security Upgrades, Various Airports in California.

After 9/11 the TSA asked Rivers & Christian to join the team that was to implement the TSA’s new security requirements in Arizona, Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena Airports.


Burbank Airport Authority, PAX & Baggage Upgrade, Bob Hope Airport, Burbank, CA.

Working with the Transport and Security Administration, Rivers & Christian provided PAX and Baggage upgrades that made Bob Hope Airport one of the first in the West to provide inline screening of passenger bags.


American Airlines & Qantas, Admirals Club & First Class Lounges, Terminal 4, LAX, CA.

For American Airlines and Qantas Rivers & Christian provided architecture, engineering and interior design services for this 35,000 sq ft. premier club that reflects its Los Angeles location with up-beat metropolitan themes.


America Airlines, Terminal 4 Improvement Project, LAX, CA.

Conceived to recall the great transportation terminals of the early part of the twentieth century this comprehensive expansion and renovation of Terminal 4 is designed to accommodate requirements and technology of the twenty first century. This complex, phased project, integrated construction of a new terminal while maintaining total operations of the terminal.



United Airlines, FIS Project, Terminal 6 and Terminal 7, LAX, CA.

In order to better serve their International customers, United Airlines commissioned Rivers & Christian to design an FIS at Terminal 7, with a connection to Terminal 6. The facility was to be constructed while both Terminals were in operation, including minimizing impact on existing operations.


American Eagle, Commuter Terminal, LAX, CA.

This 16,000 sq ft. commuter terminal received the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Design Award. The facility contains holdrooms, restrooms, concessions, operations offices, and an entrance vestibule.


FedEx Regional Sort Facility, Los Angeles, CA.

This highly mechanized SoCal. FedEx Airport Hub comprising 230,000 sq ft. of sort area, 50,000 sq ft. of office space and 20,000 sq ft. of aircraft and ground equipment maintenance facilities, required building renovation, taxiway paving, underground fuel systems, ground power and demolition work.


Frontier Airlines Relocation Project, Terminal 6, LAX, CA.

To relocate Frontier Airlines’ operation to Terminal 6 at LAX, Rivers & Christian provided architectural services for the new facility that consisted of ticketing, holdrooms and operational areas.


California State University, Post Earthquake Modular Building Campus Northridge, CA.

Working closely with the campus administration and HUD, Rivers & Christian designed a temporary modular campus building allowing students to return to a safe learning environment in the fall following the Northridge earthquake.


Alaska Airlines Relocation Project, Terminal 3, LAX, CA.

This project involved the relocation of Alaska Airlines passenger check in, holdrooms and operational areas from Terminal 4 to Terminal 3.



Six Flags Magic Mountain, Food Court Restaurant Facilities, Valencia, CA.

Food, Etc is an award winning food court in the center of one of Southern California’s premiere theme parks. It is designed to withstand rough use from thousands of guests each day by using industrial-strength materials in a people friendly fashion.


America West Airlines, Gate 1 Expansion Project, Terminal 1, LAX, CA.

To solve the problem of adding an additional gate to the existing Terminal 1 complex, Rivers & Christian designed an innovative lightweight curvilinear metal structure. It was supported by a cantilevered pile foundation allowing it to follow the existing cast-in-place retaining wall without being supported by it.


KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Cargo Facility, O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, IL.

This facility incorporated state of the art security, communication, and cargo handling system. The building’s steel frame, glass, and laminated metal panel system houses 25,000 sq ft of office space and 80,000 sq ft of cargo space. As well as 5,000 square feet of cold storage and 15 truck docks.


Boy Scouts of America, Corporate Headquarters Remodel. Los Angeles, CA.

For this remodel of their corporate headquarters, Rivers and Christian repurposed an aging commercial building.


John Wayne Airport Terminal Upgrades. Irvine, CA.

For the John Wayne Airport in Orange County Rivers & Christian provided architectural services for a variety of Terminal upgrades including………


Stanford University Hospital, Offices & Patient Rooms Remodel. Palo Alto, CA.

For the remodel of Stanford University Hospital’s offices and patients rooms. Rivers & Christian developed building finish standards for the Stanford Medical campus. The program was so well received that it was implemented by Stanford Facilities Department.


American Airlines, Containerized Cargo Processing Facility. LAX, CA.

This was Rivers & Christian’s first project for American Airlines and the beginning of a long relationship with the airline. The project involved designing a containerized cargo processing facility for American Airlines’ 747 Cargo fleet.



Frontrunners First Retail Facility. West Los Angeles, CA.

As running for exercise becomes popular, Frontrunners engages Rivers & Christian to design a contemporary “with it” environment for the only retail store in Southern California at the time focusing on running gear.


North Slope Borough, Nuiqsuit Community School. Nuiqsuit, Alaska.

Being reachable only by snowmobile or ice plane and with temperatures known to reach minus 45 degrees, creating a warm, accessible and attractive facility was always going to be a challenge. The successfully completed school features a clock tower that became an orientating landmark in the village.


Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, Headquarters & Shopping Center. Barrow, Alaska.

This headquarters and shopping center complex has many unique features. It was the first air conditioned building north of the Arctic Circle. As a conventional foundation would have destroyed the permafrost an innovative laminated wooden pile system frozen deep into the permafrost was used. In addition wood is used throughout the design because it was a material familiar to the local construction crews.
